Tulum Ruins

Tulum Ruins in the Mayan Riviera, MexicoVisit the amazing Tulum Ruins!

Tulum, that in mayan means “wall” or “forth,” is the Maya site that was also known by the name Zama, meaning city of Dawn. It’s the biggest ancient building that is still standing on the Riviera Maya shore, and is the only group of construction, of archeological interest, that is surrounded by walls located right above the sea.

Tulum is a great archaelogical site to visit, either if you feel like taking a half day tour to the site, or if you wish to take a full day tour designed with the perfect mix of stops for your experience in the Riviera Maya.

The famous Tulum and Beyond tour is quite different from other Tulum tours. Not so much a tour, this is more like being shown around by friends who live here. Though it’s a day full of wonderful experiences, we don’t rush anyone – it’s all about being able to enjoy the wonders of the Mayan Riviera.  And we have to say the Guides are great!  |We have known them personally for over 10 years and they are the best!

Our Tulum and Beyond excursion is a one of a kind day filled with adventure, and described by many as the highlight of their vacation. This tour gives guests a perfect mix of stops guaranteed to give you some of the best the Mayan Riviera has to offer: you’ll explore the ruins of Tulum, swim/snorkel in two different cenotes, and enjoy a picnic lunch and relaxation time on a lovely, secluded beach.

Tour itinerary
With our goal of beating the crowds to Tulum, we arrive early which sets the tone for a relaxing, hassle free day. There’s simply no other place on the Mayan Riviera coast like the ruins of Tulum. The ruins of Tulum have one of the most dramatic settings – perched atop a cliff by the beautiful Caribbean Sea. Although we have visited countless times, the stunning view continues to astound us. Our group will be joined by a local, certified guide. Our goal is to provide our guests with interesting information, spectacular views and an appreciation for the intriguing mystery that was the ancient Mayan civilization.

Cooling off
After the visit to Tulum, you will love the next stop – Gran Cenote. The Yucatan is unique for its cenotes, which basically are waterfilled sinkholes, or entrances to sub-terrainian river systems. This particular cenote is highly decorated with stalactites and stalagmites, both above and beneath the surface. The water is cool and clear as air. Snorkeling in this natural wonder will give you an unforgettable memory that can only be experienced first hand. We snorkel or swim for as long as the group enjoys it.

The Beach
This particular stretch of beach is absolutely stunning. The beach of Tulum is voted by CondeNast as one of the top 10 beaches in the world. We access the beach close to the entrance of the Sian Ka’an nature reserve, where there’s hardly any people, just a looooong white paradise beach. We set up lunch here, eat, swim in the ocean, throw a frisbee, have a couple of beers, lay in a hammock, chill or go for a stroll. No rush.

One last stop…
Heading back to Playa we need to clear our heads and perk up after an eventful day. We stop at a great little cenote in a lush jungle setting where we’ll see tons of tropical freshwater fish, great examples of fossils, and have the opportunity to jump off a cliff into to the water. Float, swim, jump, snorkel or chill – your choice. At this time in the afternoon, chances are good to see some colorful tropical birds in the vegetation surrounding the cenote. A perfect ending to a beautiful day.
